The people in history we admire most are the people who pushed these voices aside and struggled on. They were ordinary people like you or me. The only difference is they found a cause, an inspiration and clung to it wholeheartedly.
I used to majorly struggle with the Rosary. To me, it seemed almost idolatrous until I understood the reasoning behind it. Imagine my annoyance when I realized that basically all of the Rosary was based on scripture! But, even in that knowledge, I still felt like something was off.
People with a childlike heart have fierce bravery, but also a fierce dependence no God. They have a willingness to forgive and be vulnerable with fellow brothers and sisters. Children are always ready for the next adventure, the next sunrise, the next laugh! They enjoy God’s goodness. And no matter how angry I can be at the little stinkers, I can’t help but love them and want the best for them… Just like how God loves us and wants the best for us.
If God who designed and created everything that exists - INCLUDING ME - did so with such precision and intentionality, (and he did), then it makes so much sense that living according to his direction and his desires for us, will bring us the most fulfillment, happiness and peace.
That ache for the eternal can be overwhelming at times. Especially when we feel estranged in our own lives. Like foreigners, looking for a place to belong. We’re being lied to that this is home...Maybe we’ve even begun to settle in and forget what’s beyond here. Friends, our true Home is far more grand and fulfilling than any of this.
