Finding Happiness When Nothing Else Works

Deuteronomy 10:12-14

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD, your God, ask of you

but to fear the LORD, your God, and follow his ways exactly,

to love and serve the LORD, your God,

with all your heart and all your soul,

to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD

which I enjoin on you today for your own good?

Think! The heavens, even the highest heavens,

belong to the LORD, your God,

as well as the earth and everything on it.”

I don’t know about you… but I like to do things my way. In my life, i have always kind of had a tendency to resist obedience to authority. As a child, I was so much wiser than my parents… as a student, I found very little importance in my school work and really didn’t see the value in doing homework… so i often just didn’t. As I became a teenager and young adult, seeking pleasure and whatever made me happy was kind of just the name of the game.

Ultimately now, I have a completely different perspective on everything. Since falling in love with God, and growing deeper in really knowing him over time, I have found so much freedom in his rule over my life. The things i used to think would make me happy, I now understand to be so empty and shallow.

If God who designed and created everything that exists - INCLUDING ME - did so with such precision and intentionality, (and he did), then it makes so much sense that living according to his direction and his desires for us, will bring us the most fulfillment, happiness and peace.
